A COLD DAY AT ST ANDREWS

ST ANDREWS BAY

Yesterday was our 6th round this winter and we got very lucky with the weather and most finished the round before the heavy rain started.

Lucky for us we were off more forward tees than we normally play from and it certainly helped us as the wind was gusting at 30mph in some places.

The forward tee boxes resulted in the scores being far better than I expected and quite a few players managed to dump one of their dodgy rounds

Finishing top of the leader board yesterday was our triple Spoon winner Graham Dickie with a solid 38 points. Graham was very pleased to win as it has been a while since his first win away back in 2011 and since then he seems to have only been collecting Spoons. Graham is now sitting with 130 points but has only played 4 rounds so another solid round could put him in contention for the Elite 4 ball at our Grand Final this year.

The fight for the 2 remaining winning places was one of the most tight ever in any Tour events with 4 players on 37 points.

Paul James had a great eagle on the 17th by holing his second shot on this tough par 4 played along the cliff edge. This gave him a 5 pointer which was enough to beat me on count back over the last 3 holes. Both of us had 22 points for the back 9 so it went down to last 3.

Also on 37 points was Mr Consistent this season Ian Fox and he dumped his 27 pointer from Leven. Ian had 19 points on the back 9 beating John Wynn who only had 15 points on back 9.

John had a fantastic front 9 with 22 points including 9 points in just 2 holes. He had a nice chip in for a eagle on the 5th which gave him 5 points there. It was a poor back 9 especially his finish on the last when he missed a 2 footer and ended up blobbing the hole. Very costly as just 1 point would have gave him a clear 2nd place and some cash.

Nearest the pins were Davie Revie and Neil Keir on the 6th and 16th.

The Spoon was won by David Stirling and he now becomes a triple Spoon Winner. David is now sitting along side Graham with 3 wins each. Another win for either player will see them joining Geraldo on 4 and tying for the King Spooner title.

More on the Spoon Boy to follow and also a full report on the Hackers Elite Squad player who avoided the Spoon by a baw hair !!!
