DRESSED TO WIN THE SPOON ??

Murray was certainly dressed for the summer conditions on Sunday. He was the clear winner in the best dressed category.

For those who don't know Murray he is a Hackers record holder. Murray and Michael Kennaway hold the record for the biggest humping. They were rogered 9-8 by Peter Ritchie and Scott Kennedy at Leven in 2010.

Murray is also a Spoon winner a few years back and here he was all dressed for the occasion but as he walked down the first the thought suddenly hit him.

If I play like a tit and get this Spoon I will get absolute dog's abuse due to my attire.

He was also out in a 4 ball that contained double Spoon winners Geraldo and Mr Dickie so between them they had 5 Spoons.

This played through his mind and with a few holes to go he knew that he was borderline and he admitted later he was even willing his partner to miss putts and duff shots so he could stay ahead of someone in his 4 ball.

In the end the Chef was fine and he stayed out of danger and a whole lot of abuse.

Best dressed for the season - no contest.

HACKERS CHAMPION 2012

HACKERS WINTER
CHAMPION
2012
PAUL "VERA" JAMES

Mr Happy collecting his trophy from last years winner Neil Keir

What can I say !

In second place Gordon Sinclair

In third place Brian Murphy

On Sunday none of the top 4 ball improved their best 5th score and Paul managed to hang to the overall  lead by just 1 point.

It had been a tight game all the way round between Paul and Gordon and with just 3 holes to go Gordon was 3 points ahead of Paul overall but a blob on the 16th dropped him behind again.

It was a great finish to the season and show's that the format is a good one when after 6 months golf and 198 holes of golf that it all comes down to the last hole.

Congratulations to Paul on winning the Tour for the second time.

LENZIE COURSE 28TH OF MARCH

LENZIE GOLF CLUB REPAIRS

I took a walk over the course tonight and you can see from the photos below things are progressing along.

The new green has just been cut and the new 5th tee is also laid now. The 18th fairway has been laid up just short of the bunkers at the green. There is just some bits to finish at the start of the 4th and the 18th.

The practice area on the other side of the ditch is mainly reinstated and awaiting turf. Then there is the reinstatement of the practice green area after that.

THE BATTLE OF THE DONKEY'S

On Sunday the non appearance of Kenny Lang meant that all the players below had to do was get more than 150 points and they would avoid winning the Donkey prize.

Full credit to all especially Richard and Davie who both were on 145 and 144 respectively. They both managed to pass the 150 target.

John and Jim didn't have as much pressure on them because of Kenny not turning up at the last round after saying he was intending to play. John had 150 points already and only needed 1 more get out the way and he did that with ease. Jim was already safe as he was on 153 points before they started.

As Kenny never turned up and tried to get some more points in the bag all the others passed him and he has ended up with the donkey for another season. So Kenny Lang successfully retained the Donkey of the year award.

Well done to all.

ANOTHER WINTERS GOLF OVER

Some of The Hackers
March
2012

Some of yesterday's players outside Ladybank Golf Club.
LADYBANK GOLF CLUB
MARCH 2012

Yesterday was our final round of our Winter Tour.

Winter ??

It was certainly not winter conditions as we had roasting temperatures well into the 70's. The course was in mint condition with fantastic greens , superb fairways and tees. Yesterday there was no matts on any of the tees and the tee boxes all set up for the season giving us the full course to play. Playing off the blues we had 6300 yards but I think it was probably playing longer than that as 3 of the par 3's were right behind the whites.

It has been a great winter for golf and yesterday just topped off the Tour with record temperatures for March. We possibly will never get another winter round ever with those kind of temperatures.

The standard of golf was not as high as the last few years at Ladybank. This was probably down to us playing over a far longer course and the greens being so quick.

In first place was last years Ladybank Champion John Hamilton who had 38 points just 1 less than last year. Superb shooting from Hammy who hasn't managed as many rounds as he normally does due to family commitments such as swimming lessons. He obviously likes the Ladybank track and solid shooting for the second year in a row.

In second place was Andrew Alexander who had 38 points also but lost on count back to Hammy. Andrew had 16 points and John had 18. Andrew also managed to pull back points in his private battle with Derek Mitchell and they both finished the season on identical points.

In third place was Craig Chalmers who had a solid round shooting 1 under par scratch for the course. Craig finished with 37 points and had 20 of them on the back 9. Craig is back at Ladybank in May for the Scottish Youths Championship played over 72 holes. Hope the weather is a good then for him.

Jamie O Prey also had 37 points but only had 15 on the back 9. Jamie has just returned from Turkey with the afternoon circus and was the overall winner of the weeks golf over there. So congratulations to Jamie.

Nearest the pins went to Andrew Alexander and Craig Chalmers at the 4th and 10th holes.

SPOON BOY for the day was guest Jim Fleming who saved Jim Cullen's bacon by getting 1 point less than him. Jim won the spoon with 23 points followed by Jim Cullen and Graham Dickie on 24 points each.

Cruden Bay

The Elite team finished off their Winter Tour with a 2 day trip North to Aberdeen. They played Cruden Bay and Royal Aberdeen over the two days.

Two Hackers were invited along for the trip. Scott Kennedy and Stevie Paul played and Stevie finshed 2nd overall for the 2 rounds which sets him up nicely for our Final on Sunday.

Below is a copy of Stevie's text.

LADYBANK UPDATE

There has been numerous call offs in the last few days but we have managed to keep the numbers at 36 for the 4 balls. Thanks to Murray , David and Jim for coming in at short notice.

Phoned pro shop at Ladybank today and the good news is that there will be NO MATTS this weekend so its full course for the Hackers. All matts are away for the winter.

We have to pay the green fee balance to the pro shop which is £23( for most ) and the food to the catering staff.

Weather looking fine as well so will it be good scores for all ?

Spoon has been won the last 2 years with 28 points !!

FULL ATTENDANCE

The 18th at Ladybank Golf Club

This year has been our biggest Winter Tour. Mainly due to the weather we will have played 11 rounds which is 2 more than any other year. We also travelled away to Montrose which is the most miles we have ever travelled for a round.

Crail Balcomie and Craighead were new courses for the Tour as well as Whitekirk and Falkirk Tryst. With Montrose also being a new venue that gave a total of 5 new courses added this year.

After Sunday we will have travelled nearly 1500 miles to play every round this winter.

Who has played every round ?

There has been 47 players played at least 1 round but only 4 have played every round.

George Leadbittter

Paul James

Neil Keir

Steven Gibson

Well done to all four for completing all 11 rounds.  They are all down to play on Sunday so I am assuming they will be present.

Another 9  players have missed just 1 round.

Alex Smart
Andrew Alexander
Derek Mitchell
Ian Baird
Ian Fox
John Wynn
Robert Chalmers
Scott Kennedy
Stevie Paul

Tommy Nicholson and Mick Drummond have also missed just 1 at this stage but they both have decided to go to some football match on Sunday and will miss another round.

Weather looking good for Sunday.
