Round 9 on Sunday was at Powfoot and a stiff breeze with some showers made scoring a lot lower for most than it has been this season.
The winner on Sunday was Neil with 37 points. Last year's overall winner won his first Tour event on Sunday. Even though Neil won overall last year, he has never actually won a round on its own. So well done to Neil. He managed to win a few extra points also in the league standings and moved up a few positions. Can he win overall again? He needs to have some really high scores in the last 2 rounds to have any chance.
In second place was Mr Steady Billy Gibson with 36 points and he also moved up a few points. He was closely followed by Alex Smart on 35 points.
The nearest the pins were Jim Wylie and Richard Aitken.
Our Spoon winner was defending Spoon Boy, Graham Dickie, who walked out the club with the same prize he had walked in with 20 minutes before the prizegiving.
Graham took the Spoon back up the road in the Yorkie Spoon Car. Davy Stirling has now transported the Spoon to and from the Tour events 5 times in 12 months. There were 2 for himself , 2 for Tiger Dickie and 1 for John Cumming who won it at Southerness last March.
Another interesting fact is that all 3 of them have also won a Tour event this winter !!
GETTING DOWN TO THE FINAL 2 ROUNDS.
The next round will be the round that sets up the players who will be playing in the Top Dogs 4 ball battle and also those for the Donkey 4 ball battle. In less than 2 weeks all will be revealed who the lucky players are and who will be going out together in the last 2 games at Ladybank.
The top 4 all remain on the same points after Sunday so no changes in that game.
They are Vera , Sinky , Foxy and Ma Card. As it stands, there are about 6 players still in the running for winning overall. Players with more than 182 points are all capable of being this year's overall Champion.
At the other end of the table, there were some movers and shakers. Davy Stirling moved out of the 4 ball, but he is tied on 153 points with 3 others. Below those 3 are the bottom 3 of Kenny Lang , Johnny S and Richard Aitken. Also there are a couple of players on 4 rounds that need to hit some decent points if they don't want to drop into that game or pick up the Donkey prize on the final day.
The bottom is very very tight and I think there are 8 or 9 players all able to fall into the Donkey 4 ball at Ladybank. Any player with less than 158 points is in the battle to avoid The Donkey of the Year award.
Its going to be very tight at both the top and bottom.

SCORES UPDATE
This Sunday is our 9th round this winter and with a few going away to Turkey in a few weeks this will be their last round before the Grand Final to get some good points in.
Why has the scoring been so good this year?
The main reason is the weather. We have had great conditions for the rounds this year and this for me has been the main factor. We are also getting used to playing certain courses. This year we have introduced 4 new courses so far and if we play at Mar Hall that will be 5.
Also, the round at Crail where there were high points for most due to the winter greens. That is the first time we have ever played winter greens and the course was not frozen solid. Two years ago we had winter greens at Powfoot but the ground was frozen solid which resulted in poor scores for most that day. The main difference at Crail was the ground was soft and the course short. Since 2007 we have only played winter greens twice.
The scoring has been very good this year and you have to go back to Leven 2010 when we had very tough conditions with wind and rain showers. That day Alex Smart won with just 31 points and myself and Kenny Lang were runners up with 29 points!!
This year, 29 points at some rounds has nearly got you the Spoon.Scores below with each players best 5 scores total and the score they need to better to increase their total.
