ELIE LINKS
Sunday 29th January
Yesterday was our 7th round of this year's Winter Tour and, yet again, we hit it lucky with the weather. Cold but very calm conditions made this course play a bit easier than normal, for most that is. Only 5 players never got 30+ points with the winner just 1 point from equalling the Tour record of 41 points.
The winner was Derek "Del Boy"Mitchell with a great score of 40 points. This meant that Derek gained 15 points in the best 5 rounds league table and still has a 25 pointer to dump. This was the best round Derek has had since last year's Summer outing and maybe this season he will start getting his handicap back down to what it used to be a few years ago.
In second place was Craig Weir with his best score of the season, finishing with 39 points. He was 1 ahead of Stevie "Ma Card" Paul with a solid 38 points. I was surprised that Stevie "only" got 38 as he had 26 points standing on the 11th tee! He had 21 at the turn then proceeded to drive to 3 feet on the 10th and can the putt for a 2 and 5 points!! I think this is our first ever 5 pointer but I may be wrong and if I am, please let me know.
We had another 4 players play to their handicap or better and another 5 on 35 points.
The nearest the pins were won by Jim Cullen and Scott Kennedy.
Spoon Boy for this round was George Leadbitter, losing on count back from his travelling companion Davie Revie. They both had 25 points but The General had a pathetic 10 points on the back 9 and therefore entered into the Spoon Boy Camp. These 2 players saved Steven Gibson yet again from getting Spooned. He has more lives than a cat when it comes to the Spoon and this season he has been missing it solely because someone has been really poor and helping him get out of jail
Another fantastic day's golf and, as usual, the course at Elie was in great condition for January, especially the fairways.
We have 28 players now having played their 5 rounds or more and another 7 with 4 or 3 rounds each. Who is in the current top 4 ball position and who is in the donkey 4 ball position ??
The next round is Drumoig Golf Course in 2 weeks.
Lots more pictures to follow and also the following:
"The course is up that way Laddie, not in here "
The Bandito strays off the course - WAAAY OFF THE COURSE !!
Hutch hits the ball far too far !!
Vera and Sinky keep bagging the points.
General George bags a Spoon in full uniform.
"Daddy" Aitken finally gets Spooned.
THE WINTER TOUR LEADERBOARD AFTER 7 ROUNDS NEXT
