20th November
Only 5 weeks until Christmas and some of us were playing in short sleeves yesterday. What a contrast to the last 2 years when we have been at Scotscraig. Two years ago it was frozen solid and last year it was hard and bitterly cold just before we got frozen in for 7 weeks.
THE CROWWOOD MAFIA CONTINUE TO DOMINATE
Two weeks ago, Ian Baird won at Leven with 40 points and yesterday his brother-in-law, Brian Murphy, shot the same number of points as Ian to win by a clear 2 points. This was excellent shooting and Brian took advantage of the balmy conditions to get a rack of points on his account for this season.
Scott takes the money off Mick by 2 points
Alex Smart nearest the pin
Andrew Alexander nearest the pin
John Wynn in 3rd place
Jim Wylie in 2nd place
Scotscraig winner Brian Murphy with 40 points
SCOTSCRAIG SPOON BOY KEVIN McKINNEY 22 POINTS
In second place was Jim Wylie with 38 points and having 19 points on the back 9 was enough to beat John Wynn on count back. John had 24 points at the turn but could only manage 14 back in.
While we were all out on the course, word was getting around that Steven Gibson only had 2 or 4 points playing the 9th. Happy days and lots of smiles as someone else was going to be picking up the spoon.
Someone did pick up the Spoon but it wasn't Steven with only 2 points after 7 and having to borrow balls at that point as he had none left in his bag.
Steven certainly had a game of two halves. He had only 2 points after 7 but managed 7 more points on the 8th and 9th to reach the turn with 9 in total. He then proceeded to get 20 points in the 9 remaining holes and shoot away from the danger zone.
Who was in Spoon Territory and the danger zone?
We had 2009 Winter Champion, Davy G, with 25 and Peter Ritchie who has been flirting with disaster the last 2 outings was also on 25. They were just ahead of Del Boy who had 25 points but only 11 on the inward half. This put Derek in pole position and just when he was getting himself ready for his picture with the Spoon in came Kevin McKinney with only 22 points and the winner of the Spoon this week with ease. Congratulations Kevin on winning this award, you now join a long list of illustrious winners and you will have a place at this year's Spoon Table for Christmas Lunch.
Alex Smart and Andrew Alexander won the par 3s with Andrew just 6 inches from the hole. Andrew had 3-2s yesterday also.
