Well gents this is another "you can't make it up" Hackers story.
After winning the Spoon at Ladybank last March we had Hutchy visiting the doctor and getting sorted out for a ear infection which was causing him to miss putts.
This week I heard another wee story of another Hacker going to extraordinary lengths to sort out his game.
Derek "Del Boy"Mitchell at this years Sponsors Day won nearest the pin at the 17th only to 3 putt from 6 feet !! His first putt ended up 8 foot past the hole.
It was fully documented in a earlier post and I won't go over old ground. You can still catch up with it in last Augusts postings.
After putting like a donkey and the abuse he got afterwards Del decided to plan a new practice routine to improve his scoring.
What did he do?
He went to Carpet Wise with his putter , 3 balls and a stimpmeter !!
You can picture the conversation with the sales man.
"I need a shaggy pile carpet for slow greens "
"A hard coconut hair for links greens"
"A deep pile carpet for spongy greens"
"A length of linoleum for the very fast slick greens"
"I would like to try them all first before I take them home and also can I test them for speed with my stimpmeter "
"I would like to achieve a speed between 12 and 9 to give me practice on all surfaces."
"I am stopping at the building merchants on the way back home to get a wee drop of sand also to sprinkle over the carpets to give them that true links feel"
Yes gents Hackers go to almost any lengths to improve their game and stay away from Spoon territory.
He was allowed to set up half a dozen cuttings of carpet in the middle of the floor and putt back and forward testing them with his stimpmeter also. After 30 minutes he had a group of half a dozen other zoomers sorry shoppers all trying out his carpets with his balls and putter.

' Aye wait till I get some sand on that lino it will be just like the Auld Course in summer "!!!
So after The Carpet Wise Putting Championship he departed with 4 different grades of carpet for him to practice on.
For the last few months Derek has been putting away happily in his garage with his shaggy bits and sandy bits of carpet trying to sort out his putting woes.
