Not a bit of frost was visible |
Winter Tour 2012
Round 4
2nd December
Sunday was our 5th round of this year's Tour and, as you can see from the picture above, we had a great day for a game of golf.
Unfortunately, Mr Frost had sunk his teeth into the ground and even though there wasn't any visible above the ground, it was very hard in most places. This resulted in winter greens for all holes and because of that we halved everyone's handicaps.
The greens were in very difficult places and the cups were the normal size and not the large winter type. All in all the scores worked not bad by reducing the handicaps as I was keen to avoid last year's 44- 47 points that were run up.
Onto the results and it was one of our lowest handicappers who walked off with main prize. Ian Fox playing with just a 2 handicap cut from 4 shot a very impressive 38 points in the hard bouncy conditions. Ian has been very consistent this season and this score will no doubt be one of his main 5 scores. Well played, Ian.
In second place, losing out to Ian on countback, was one of the Crow Wood Mafia, Ian "Shows Ya" Baird, also shooting 38 points but he had 2 points less than Foxy's back 9. This is only Ian's second round this year but he has already got 71 points.
In third place with a solid 36 points another Crow Wood Hacker, John Byrne. This was a huge improvement for John as he just avoided the Spoon at the last round when he only got 23 points.
Nearest the pin at the 14th was Stevie "Ma Card" Paul making his first appearance of the season. Stevie has been away playing in the A Division with The Lenzie Elite Squad but he has dropped back down into Oor Hackers League which his level of golf is more suited to.
For the first time ever we had nobody hit the green on the other nearest the pin hole. It was a terrible hole with a totally blind tee shot over the gorse. In my own game we all blobbed it and I think most people did. Craig Chalmers tried to claim the prize as he was 6 inches off the green. Off is off. The money was given as a tip to the staff who had looked after us.
WE HAVE ANOTHER TRIPLE SPOON WINNER
Graham Dickie joined the Triple Crown winners table by winning the Spoon with 23 points and is now only 1 behind Geraldo for the King Spooner Title. Brian Murphy was ready to walk up and collect the Spoon as he was convinced he had won it with 24 points and he punched the air in delight when I announced the winner. I think it's only a matter of time for Brian as he has been flirting with it on a few occasions.
Looking at some of the other scores it was good to see the Chimney Boys get their act together. Sitting at the rear end of the league table General George and Davie Revie picked up 35 and 33 points each by far their best for a long time.
Last round's runner up was Big Davy G with 36 points. This round's total was just 25 showing just how erratic his golf is - just like the rest of us.
The unbeaten defending Lundin Champ, Geraldo, was well down the points this time with just 27 points and has lost his Lundin crown.
Andrew Alexander once again put in a solid score to go with his previous 2 and is now looking very good with 107 points for 3 rounds. Remember Mick had 101 and was the leader after 3 rounds so that shows you all just how well Andrew is doing.
Only 11 players got 30+ points so this might well be a round that a lot of people dump. Graham Dickie certainly will!!
The next round will allow some people to get their 5 scores in and start dumping the worst ones after the New Year.
Next round is 16th December at Dundonald Links.
First tee time 9.40 from the 1st and 10th tee.
Christmas dinner is at the Golden Pheasant afterwards.
Let's hope the freezing weather disappears and we get our 5th round in before our break.
Everyone should have the Excel Sheet with the scores already on them and it also shows the current totals.
