KINGSBARNS
GOLF LINKS
Rocky Ness |
For me Kingsbarns is the best course in Scotland and having had the fortune to have played it numerous times in all types of weather I have always found it in mint condition from start to finish.
The 15th is a spectacular par 3 played over the rocks to a massive green sitting out on a rocky out crop. There is normally a strong wind blowing from the left pushing any weak or short shot onto the beach. It is a daunting tee shot and with the green measuring 54 yards from the front to the back its all about getting your yardage right as well as hitting the green and not leaving yourself a massive 30-40 yard putt. With no real fairway from tee to green its hit the green or your on the rocks or in the sea depending on the tide. The sea comes right up to the edge of the green at high tide making it even more intimidating.
From the very back it plays 222 yards to the centre of the green and for us Hackers playing it off the green tees it's still150-165 yards to the centre.
There is a dropping zone at the green side if you don't want to play 3-5-7 etc off the tee !!
Next years green fees for a Scottish resident are £97.50. A lot for a round but on a nice day it doesn't get any better for a game of golf.
To follow - The best par 5 in country ??
