This years Scottish Boys is held at Dunbar in April and yesterday Craig, his mate Robbie and myself went over for a practice round. We are back this Wednesday for another round before the boys go back to school as it is their last chance to play it before April.
It was the best I have been on this winter and was in mint condition for this time of the year. Greens were just superb and fast even in February and I think they would be like lightning in the summer with big rolling slopes very tricky and 3 putts galore.
Staff were very friendly and they allowed the boys to play of the back tees as that will be where the Championship will be off.
The course didn't have one puddle on it and for £29 and £15 for the boys it was great value. Unfortunately you can only play Monday- Friday on it as the don't allow visitors out to late on at weekends and there is not enough daylight. If you can get a day off mid week it's well worth the money.
Took about a hour and a half from Lenzie to get there.
My golf was okay but with only 9 points on the front 9 I thought the Spoon had my name on it already this Sunday but things improved on the back nine to finish with 26 points. That was my first full 18 holes of golf in 16 weeks and I was tired at the end. The knee stiff and sore but not any worse and this morning is the same as it was before yesterday.
Craig played okay and he had 3- 2s at the par 3s along with a birdie at a par 5 got him to 3 under at one stage before dropping in the water on 2 occasions. These were caused by not knowing he could reach a burn off his drive and then cutting a blind corner which on the other side was the sea. So playing these rounds and making notes will help him in April. He unfortunately finished with 3 bogeys and walked off 3 over for the round.
It would be great to play at the weekend and I might contact them to see if they would take a large booking in the winter for next years Tour. I doubt it but you don't ask you will never get.
Alison and Laura were through for the day with us and afterwards we made a 1 mile detour off the A1 to have dinner at The Longniddry Inn a restaurant we often visit when playing in that area. Food is first class with huge portions and great value.
