LUNDIN LINKS SPOON BOY 2010
Photo above shows Jim getting loaded up with a box of balls for his assault on the course. After 9 holes and with 13 points to his name he was heard utter the now famous words " thank fuck I have 13 points I can hear the cutlery draw closing happy days".
Unfortunately for Jim things went tits up on the back 9. He returned to the club after 18 holes with a empty cardboard box with no balls left and 22 points to his name. Sadly for Jim this put him in pole position to be awarded the infamous spoon.
Out on the course big Neil was cruising along and reached the turn with a fantastic 20 points. Any thoughts of spoons must have been miles from entering his mind but as he started back his golf game disappeared into the North Sea and Neil was collapsing big time. Some how he managed to top up his front 9 total by only 4 points to just stay ahead of Jim in the race for the spoon.
While the rest of us sat in the warmth of the clubhouse having our soup and sandwiches Jim stood outside in the cold anxiously watching everyone finish asking them what they had shot. When David Stirling and the final game came in Jim to his dismay realised he was stuck at the bottom of the table.
Later on in the clubhouse he was presented with his prize for the day. Congratulations Jim well done.
All good fun.

The Cullens Run Away with the Prizes
LUNDIN LINKS 24TH OCTOBER
The first round of this years Winter Tour has been completed and what a fantastic day we had for golf. This year we played the course earlier than usual and they still had the full course set out with most of the holes playing longer than we have had them the past. Perfect playing conditions made it a great day out and a good start to the winter.
Last year at Ladybank in our final match of the season Gerry Cullen was the proud winner of our wooden spoon for the day. Today at our first match of this season Gerry got off to a flier and claimed first prize overall with a total of 36 points. Gerry must like Lundin Links as last year he also won there with 41 points.
Gerry brought with him the wooden spoon from last winter and he decided to keep it in the family and his younger brother Jim rose to the occasion and was the first winner of the spoon this winter with a grand total of 22 points.
This was clearly a good day at the office for the Cullen boys. They are never content winning just one prize.
In second place was one of last years most consistent players Ian Baird with 34 points. He was followed closely by Slim Jim Stirling on 33 points which was the same score as Paul James and Hutch but Jim had a very good last 3 holes to win on count back.
Nearest the pin winners were
Hutch at the 5th
Derek at the 14th
Gerry was cut 2 points Ian and Jim 1 point for sweep purposes only in the remaining matches.
Other notable performances were as follows
Neil Keir 20 points on the front 9 and a incredible 4 on the back 9 to miss the spoon by 2 points !!!!!!
Brian Newell 6 points on the front 9 and 18 on back 9 saved his bacon.
Last years champion Davy Graham with only 29 points is still to hit form and can't be discounted at this early stage.
David Stirling with 32 points had a good steady round and was pleased with his total.
So Gents first game done and dusted and we now move onto Leven Links in a fortnight. As I said today tee off for Leven is 10.00 am. Total cost for golf and a 2 course meal afterwards is £25 less your £10.00 deposit paid today.

Other course to be confirmed later is Gullane No2 for 27th February
I am also thinking about having a round at Lenzie Golf Club either on the Sunday the 12th /19th of December followed by a Christmas Lunch in the clubhouse. Cost for the lunch only would be £12-£15 if you wanted to stay for it.First tee time maybe about 10.00am. We can discuss this on Sunday.
The scores can also count towards the league if you wanted to use that score as one of your 5. If you manage to play all the above rounds and include the round at Lenzie that would be 10 rounds with your best 5 scores to count. The chances of us getting 10 rounds in is very slim with the bleak Scottish winter. So it's good to have a few extra up our sleeves.

New Handicap Rules 2010/11
New Handicap Reductions
This year we have decided that if you win money in the sweep then your handicap will be reduced accordingly. The maximum reduction for each round will be as detailed below.
Handicap 0-5 max reduction 1 shot
Everyone will start the season with their national handicap as of the 24th of October 2010.
If you win a round then the amount of reduction will depend how many points you are above par for that day (36 points).
If you win with a score less than par you will still get cut depending on the rest of the scores in that round.
The rule for receiving the spoon are simple. There is only 1 rule - he who fucks up their score the most is the winner it's that simple.
Hope it's not to complicated.
Lundin Links
First tee time is 10.52 am next Sunday the 24th October.
Meet at Lenzie Golf Club for leaving there at 8.45 am sharp.

The ''Real'' Winner of the Spoon ?????????
Gents I have been put under pressure by a lot of last weeks players to declare Stevie McPherson the winner of the spoon. They are saying that it is unfair to award the spoon to a 77 year old man and that he be reinstated as the spoon man.
Unfortunately rules are rules and once you tee off on the first you become eligible to pick up this much desired prize.
Nevertheless in order to appease the bears I am including a picture of the Big Man and the title of the Nearly Spoon Man.
If you want to comment on this decision please feel free to use the comments link at the end of this post.
We now have 28 names for Lundin Links and a reserve list.
